The IRS month-long tax forum kicked off this past week with the virtual expo opening and webinars starting. The forum offers a long list of CE accredited courses for CPAs and EAs for the rest of July and into August. Key topics are focused on crypto taxation issues, dealing with cannabis taxation, changes in e-services and cyber security for preparers.
To access the forum, go to irstaxforum.com. Key dates and topics to put on your calendar:
Tuesday, Aug. 2, Improving Access to the IRS — After a tough tax season, and long waits on communications for clients, this one is not to miss.
Thursday, Aug. 11, Tax Professional Data Breaches and How Tax Pros Can Protect Themselves — This one may be especially key for smaller practices. When we don’t have large IT departments to support us but we still are bound by HIPPA compliance for personal information protection, understanding your responsibility to security is critical .
Tuesday, Aug. 16, Temporary Changes to the Collection Notice Process to Help Taxpayers and Practitioners — Similar to the IRS access webinar, this one promises to provide further guidance as to how to best aid your clients in IRS resolution matters.
Virtual Expo — You can jump into the expo all month long, but LIVE show hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12-2 p.m. (EST) and 3 p.m.-5 p.m. (EST). Live show hours provide the opportunity to ask questions with speakers after the webinars, digitally meet with exhibitors and download information from each booth and engage with IRS representatives. Don’t forget to hop into the networking lounge.
Presentations from prior years can be accessed via the IRS.gov website and a full list of exhibitors can be found on the forum website prior to registration.
Even though the forum has yet to go back to an in-person event, it is packed with resources and opportunities to get ahead of the game in terms of preparation for the next filing season.
